Flashback Friday!
Many people know the history of the Naval Hospital Okinawa on Camp Lester. It was constructed as an Army hospital in 1958 and turned over to the Navy in 1977. Not many people know that prior to 1958, medical facilities on the island were located on Camp Mercy which was located in Ginowan.
The attached photo of Camp Mercy was taken sometime in the 1950's and is part of a collection donated to the historical archives of the U. S. Naval Hospital Okinawa Public Affairs Office by Mr. William J. Snider and Lt. Cmdr. Don Cuson, SC, USNR (Retired). We've also attached a map from 1959 which gives an idea of camp locations of that era.

貴重な写真と地図である。なぜ過去の二百近い沖縄の基地の地図や資料を探すのにこれほど苦労しなければならないのか、この土地で起こったことだ。しっかりと情報を公開し、その土地の歴史を後世に伝えていくべき。
